What staking secures

• The relayer set that broadcasts shielded transactions.
• The prover set that generates and serves proofs.

Stake is what gives these operators skin in the game; misbehavior can be slashed, good service is rewarded.

Rewards

A share of protocol fees flows to stakers through the fee collector. More private volume means more fees, which means more rewards — usage feeds the stake directly.
